Refund policy of Southwest Airlines

If you are planning to cancel your flight booked with Southwest Airlines before making final decision you must know about the Southwest refund policy that is explained below:


  • Southwest Airlines will give you a full refund for cancelling refundable flight within 24 hours of booking.
  • When you are cancelling nonrefundable flight within 24 hours of booking then you will be asked to choose from the options given refund in original payment mode or credit refund to use for future travel.
  • If you are cancelling nonrefundable flight after 24 hours of booking then the refund will be given in the form of future travel only.
  • The refund amount you are eligible for will be credited to the original mode of payment you have used at the time of booking.
  • Southwest Airline process the refund within seven days of the refund request submission then it will be reflected in your account on the basis of processing time your bank will take.


Passengers must know that they need to submit a refund request for getting refund or otherwise they will not be able to get the refund they are eligible for. How you can submit your refund request according to the Southwest refund policy is discussed below:


  • When the flight you have cancelled is not departed yet then you can submit a refund request on Southwest Airlines official website once you have applied for flight cancellation. But if you are submitting a refund request after flight departure you cannot submit your request on the website.
  • Bou can also submit your refund request by calling reservations department or customer relations.
  • You can also write to refunds department and submit your refund request.
  • If you have not requested for refund at the time you have cancelled your flight then you can submit your request afterwards also through any of the above discussed ways except on Southwest website.
  • For submitting all the other refund requests such as unused ticket etc. you can write to refund department.
